Take everything I say with a grain of salt.Ī ship almost universally derided (and rightfully so) as one of the worst ships in the game. I think on the flip side, if the IJN put more thought into conserving their franking indispensable destroyer groups, they would have done a good bit better. The following catastrophe is what happens when an average player tries to make a guide. You can tell from the USN side as well, sub attacks and air strikes result in many many more survivors rescued than the aftermath of night battles in the Solomons. If hara stayed to rescue from the convoy after Vella gulf, the IJN would have lost 4 destroyers and not pick up any survivors anyways. It's one things to rescue survivors after a submarine has launched all torps and need to disengage, or a CAG is bingo fuel and need to leave, and it's another to rescue survivors at night, when a USN destroyer group is looking to add more corpses to the pile. I think that's debatable because a good number of yukikaze's "battles" were Convoy ambushes/air attacks, while Shigure lived through more surface action. Shameful dispray" for a better idea for the particular voice-over I'm thinking of) (Google "Our men are running from the battlefield. Considering how often Shigure just runs (without contributing too much to rescue efforts), I'd say that this is actually well-deserved. The fascinating thing is that if you look at the reputation of Shigure, unlike Yukikaze, her captain was frequently accused of cowardice. x) If you compare Shigure with Yukikaze, you'll find that Shigure was hit more often, but more of the shells/torpedos were duds as opposed to Yukikaze, who was rarely hit, period. The torpedo struck a hit on Vella Gulf, but it was a dud.
